How to scare your mum

Arooo rooo rooooo!!!!

You won't see my picture yet, because I am in hiding!!! I'll explain more later.

The time has now come for me to have my eyes fixed.

You may see from one of my previous blogs, that I have a condition known as 'entropion', where my eyelids have grown too large. This nice man, Philip Hanlon from Milton Keynes Veterinary Group, is going to make me feel better by cutting the corners of my eyelids and then tucking them back so that they fit my eyes better. Mum says I will feel much happier once it is all over and done with. If you click on the link, you will be able to see where it is I am going. Milton Keynes Veterinary Group

Mum has also made the big decision...... I am not going to loose my family jewelery after all. I am to stay an entire boy! This is because my hormones haven't affected me in the way some dogs are affected. I still come when called. I am not fighting the other boys who come to visit our paddock and I am not taking myself off in search of girlfriends. What a sigh of relief that is for me, because apart from the corners of my eyelids, I will be in one piece after my operation.

When I say I am not taking myself away in search of girlfriends, last week I gave my mum a real awful fright.

We had been to the paddock because mum wanted to do a little bit of agility training with me. It was great fun. We played chase the ball over some low level jumps. Oh how I loved racing across and grabbing the ball and then bringing it back. There was lots of laughter from mum and lots of arooooo roooo rooo's from me. Mum says I sound really funny when I say that with my mouth stuffed with a ball.

When we had finished, as per usual mum started packing everything away.
"Oh good" she said "it is all done now. Come on dogs, it's time to go........ one, two, three........ one, two, three..... three? where's four? Where's Barkley?" Mum looked and looked but couldn't see me, or hear me.
"Barkley" she called
Nothing. Just silence. No sight, no sound, no me.
"BARKLEY". Still nothing.
Mum frantically started searching around. Nope. She couldn't see nor hear me.

Panic swept in, and mum started to wonder if somebody had come in and stolen me. "That's impossible" she thought "if somebody had come in the other 3 would have kicked up a din".

"BAAAAARKLEY" she called.
Nothing.

Mum checked across the road, and looked out into the park. Still nothing, no sight, no sound. She couldn't even hear my name tag jingling on my collar.

"Oh my god" she cried. "Barkley's gone".

With that, she got on the phone to Aunt Alicat, "Allie - Barkley's gone".
"gone? gone where?" replied Allie "where are you?"
"I am in the paddock," yelled mum "and he has vanished".
"Ok" said Allie "I will be down in a minute and help you to look for him".
Just at that moment, mum turned around and saw an outline.......
A red outline,
front paws on the railings and a pink tongue hanging out.

" I CAN SEE HIM" yelled mum "He's stuck".

This isn't precisely the place where I was stuck, but as you can see, I am a red/gold coloured dog, and the leaves which had fallen are roughly the same colour as I am. There were piles of them, and the overhanging branches were ladened with red/gold leaves. Mum said something about my being camelflaged?

What happened was:

As mum was packing all the things away, I have often seen people helping out at the end of the classes by putting things over the fence, so I jumped over some broken railings to go inside to see what was in there which people find so interesting. And there it was ~ I found a lovely pool of water so had a welcoming drink. Once I was inside, I tried to get back out, but I couldn't jump, because there were metal strips on the ground and other things, which moved as I tried to get my footing.

I tried another way, but that was blocked too. I could hear mum calling and calling, but she couldn't see me, so I stood waiting, hoping that eventually she would see me and come and rescue me. When mum became upset and started talking into the phone, I couldn't understand why she couldn't see me. After all, I was standing on the railings to make it blatantly obvious as to where I was.

When at last she spotted me, I was so relieved, and so was she. Mum was really shaking as she ran over to help me. It took a few minutes before she decided the only way to get me out was to pull me through the railings. Oh it was so nice to be back with everyone. Lotte, Nalle and Tallulah jumped all over me, and Tallulah and Lotte grabbed me by the neck and shook me. We all laughed together and then ran across the field.

When Mum eventually got over her fright, we all went home to have our dinner.

Today, I did some training with a few other dogs, and then later on, after the main class had finished, I helped the humans to put things away over the fence. Lorraine then went up to mum and said "Barkley's stuck on the other side of the fence and can't get out"!!!!!!!

"arrrrrgh BARKLEY!!!!! he's done it again....... by the way young Barkley...... the word is camouflaged NOT camelflaged". Silly dog!
