Re-adjusting to life

Har-row. I have been very quiet.

I really didn't want to speak to anyone after Nalle died, therefore have been keeping a very low profile.

When I first arrived here as a very small puppy, there were 3 others. Nalle, Lotte, and of course my best friend Tallulah. Lotte and Nalle were very special and we were one big happy family. But then tragedy struck, and Lotte was no more. For a few days, Tallulah and I didn't know what to do, but then we turned to Nalle. Tallulah put her mouth over Nalle's nose, and Nalle threw his head up and smiled. I knew I had to do the same, and Nalle gracefully accepted the honour, and there we were again - a very happy family with Nalle as our guardian. Tallulah and I were under the impression that things would never change, but then then unthinkable happened. Nalle was taken from us and like Lotte he is now no more. This time was far more difficult. Tallulah and I were very subdued..... but then one day, all hell broke loose.

"BARKLEY COME" yelled mum

NO!!! I am having fun can't you see? That's me, out in the orchard with my friends, Rusty the Mastiff, Alfie the Bichon/Jack Russel mix, Mia the Havanese and of course Tallulah. Oh what a wonderful time we all had. Running and running and running.

"BARKLEY COME" mum called.

"Huh, you MUST be kidding. The fun hasn't stopped yet. I am just having a break, whilst my pals are still running around".

I thought it was high time mum learned that I had fully grown up and ready and willing to take over the show.

"BARKLEY COME"

"Oh I think Mia has just found a rabbit over there, I think I will just go and see where she put it".

Phew, all this running and running has taken my breath away. I am quite exhausted.

Oh goodness, the humans were sitting on the bench a few minutes ago, where have they all gone? You can't leave me here all on my own . . .

Can you??? OK, then I don't run the show, I will try and see if I can catch you up mum. Wait for me please, I am a good boy - really.

Hello, I am Alfie. Barkley is worried because mum and her friends have left him.... but I am not bothered. It is a lovely evening, I am quite happy staying where I am. I really cannot be doing with young whipper snapper upstarts. What are you pointing that thing at me for?
