Aroooo.

It's now exactly a week since she (mummee) and vet (Caroline) put the Suprelorin implant into my shoulder, which made mummee wince and say "oh Barkley".  It was such a large needle, just like the microchip thing, and it did make me say ouchas.

What a mixed week it has been. Some good days, and some not so good. Today was one of those not so good days!

As soon as a we went out this morning, mummee noticed that I was cocking my leg quite a bit more than I was yesterday.  Nowhere near as much as I was doing before the Suprelorin, where I would sometimes go over the same spot anything up to 5 times, but certainly more than I did yesterday.  As we went along I was generally quite good, and very happy. After all the sun was shining brightly again, and it was quite warm as we went along.

I stopped to look to see if I could see any squirrels, but there weren't any. Not today.  I wonder where they go when they are not squirreling around?

For the greater part of the walk, we didn't see any other dogs. No. Squirrels, no other dogs? where is everyone during this beautiful weather?

I therefore decided to ask mumme if we could play ball:

She said yes, and then we ended up having a lovely game. All was well and good, but there were still a few scents around which tempted me to make my mark more than I did yesterday.

The ball game was quite fun and I had a really good run. I have to run really fast when I have the ball otherwise Daisy and Tally will try and steal it from me.

See what I have to contend with????

Then the time came for us to go home.  We still hadn't seen any other dogs, either up close, or in the distance, so a bit of a disappointing day.  However, as we went along the street, our Viszla friends stopped to chat to us. They were in the cages in their van. They said they were going to kennels, as their parents are going away for a few days for a very special family occasion.  They have never been to kennels before and were feeling a bit anxious.   They explained that they know the lady who owns the kennels very well, so they should be fine.  We hope they have a great time.

Then my eyes lit up....... then they came out on stalks.    The local dog walking lady appeared with her charges... two girlies, and a boy dog...... woooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.  I am a very special dog, and I can detect medical conditions, not just in humans - but in other dogs too, and I know the boy dog has anal gland issues.  I could hardly wait to give him as good sniffing over........ phwoah he smells great..... hang on, hang on, that new girlie, she smells just as good.  Phwoah, let me at them.

I become so excited that I tied all our leads up in knots, and took the opportunity to try to mount the boy, the girl, the boy, the girl, omg how on earth am I going to decide which one, as I only have one thing to use!!!!!!

Mummee was so disappointed. But still it is early days.  She then said goodbye to the dog walker and almost had to haul me away from the pack. I kept looking back until they had disappeared..... but then mummee noticed me prancing as I went along, so she knew what was coming.

As we went back into our local park, she let me off the lead, and I was just about to take off to see if I could run back to find them. I could smell precisely where they had been walking  and I really wanted to go. Mummee called me, and I did go straight back to her, but then I paced, and peed, and paced and peed, and then I started straining again.  I was reallu stressed out, but this time I settled back down again very quickly, as I did when I met the South African Mastiff a few days ago.  I then walked home very calmly.

Mummee says when I get like that, I act like a dirty old man..... now what does she mean by that?!!!!!

Mummee took me outside to brush me just now, and she says my coat is no longer quite as shiny as it was..... hmmmmmmm.... coat changes. That's something which happens to us Setters when our hormones are altered.  Let's see where this is all leading.

I will be glad when things calm down, because Dr. Sniffy Barkley has been sniffing my rear end more today too. I usually bite his nose if he keeps on, but I must say, he isn't pestering me quite so much just lately and I do like him when I can play, instead of being pestered

See you tomorrow.

Barkley
